Dominant Exception
I want to introduce you to how you can make a simple dominant chord work on another tone degree, and very powerfully as a passing or substitution chord.
This is the use of the Dominant chord of the 7th degree of your scale over the 4th degree, as a chord passing through to the 3rd degree:
4 - 3 - 6
So, lets say you are on the 4 Chord going to the 3, and leading on to the 6 in a 4-3-6 progression, lets say on key Db:
This is the use of the Dominant chord of the 7th degree of your scale over the 4th degree, as a chord passing through to the 3rd degree:
4 - 3 - 6
So, lets say you are on the 4 Chord going to the 3, and leading on to the 6 in a 4-3-6 progression, lets say on key Db:
That would give you a nice walk to your 2 chord. You would love it.
