LOCAL ARTISTS
I decided to come up with this phrase for the enrichment of some kind of musician out there. And of course this will address IF not a part but a whole of your music life as an artists. My emphasis or focus will be on the person not primarily his works.
"You don't necessarily need to attend a music school to be appreciated or for your works to be recognised or imbibed by the people". Hence, that would mean that your form of EXPRESSION can be another's INSPIRATION.
In the world of "art" an artist is one who creates art. Regardless of the quality or quantity of his art. Art is an expression of the artist's self, so it is understandable why people hesitate to call themselves artists. This post is meant to erase your uncertainty.
Let's establish what 'LOCAL' in this context would mean; Simply Traditional/Local Music. The Concept of Traditional Music - is generally music that is created in a common manner, has continued from the time of its production right down to the present day, is popular and frequently played and recited in its region and by local people.
As a music creator, you have a distinct and recognisable SOUND. This includes your song arrangements as well as vocal style. A Singer moulds his voice and overall sound to the song or genre he is singing. So an artists creates a musical style, and even a sub-genre of his own.
In other words, as a musician, your job description is that you make/create, perform and release music either independently or through a record label.
The commitment level of a music artist is extreme, living sometimes a nomadic and taxing lifestyle and spending long days and nights in the studio recording music. That's why I like saying that music is a profession that MUST NOT be toiled with.
Local Artists that you are, you MUST ensure these facts are a reality to you, thus;
(1) Let your strength move globally and with relentless effort through singles and collaborations.
(2) Drop banging records, sealing lucrative deals, ply on the run way and become a more trending topic
(3) Being deliberately tactful, artistically disciplined, technically accomplished, identifying your audience and building strong teams around enhances your influence magnificently.
ATTENTION: While recording or performing that song, you should be able to convey your thoughts from your mind to that of the listeners. You should ask yourself a few questions like “am I communicating?” and “how well am I able to convey my thoughts?”
An "artists" who doesn’t know how to express his/her feelings using the voice or an instrument will definitely struggle while performing, and most importantly, people will hardly feel the groove or get into the mood when he/she is performing
All the great singers and instrumentalists of all times that we love are people who know how to express their feeling using music as a tool and that’s why they are able to get us to tap our toes, snap our fingers, nod our heads, and even cry.
I summarise with this, communicate, steadily express your feelings, serve the purpose. Tract that purpose by either being an;
*Entertainer,
*Educator,
*Communicator,
*Worshipper (religiously),
*Therapist, advertiser/announcer. …and I guarantee you that as a local artists that you are, never will you be the same again.
Looking forward to having you in our next posts.
